Original pre-Civil War to Civil War Period Drum Major’s Baton
Original pre-Civil War to Civil War Period Drum Major’s Baton – We have had only a couple of these batons in the past, as they are rather difficult to find. This baton is rather plain, constructed of some kind of hardwood, perhaps maple, that was painted with a black lacquer type of paint, covering most of the baton, with the exception of a decorative gold band of paint a few inches below the brass bulb and a gold painted, faux decorative tip, at the pointed bottom of the baton. The large brass bulb appears to have been constructed in two halves, which are seemingly dovetailed and soldered together. These batons are rare. The baton measures 37” in length and remains in excellent condition.
