1830s “A Night and Day” Four Draw Telescope Marked and Made by Ashmore and Osborne of London – This fine, early, four-draw telescope’s optics are in excellent condition; the brass barrels or tubes are in good condition, presenting a pleasing patina; the wood area, affixed to the largest tube, is in excellent condition. Stamped in the brass ring, just above the wood covering,\ of the large tube, is the following:

ASHMORE & OSBORNE

DAY OR NIGHT

LONDON

Ashmore & Osborne are listed in “Pigot and Co.’s National Commercial Directory for 1828 – 9”, a London published directory of businesses in operation in those years. Missing from this early telescope are the lens covers for the eyepiece and objective lenses. This is a fine, definitively pre-Civil War telescope, ideal for a period naval display or collection.
