Original Civil War Period Carpet Bag
SOLD
Original Civil War Period Carpet Bag – These Civil War period, carpet bags have become rather difficult to find now; this example is definitively war period or slightly earlier. It remains in overall very good condition, with some slight fraying on the handles. The body of the bag is in fine condition, as is the beige, linen lining. The bottom of the bag’s exterior is constructed of tooled, black leather, with two, brass decorative and protective tacks. The colors of this bag remain quite vivid and not faded. These bags were definitely carried, by soldiers, in the field, as many of the metallic parts, to include locks, brass tacks and frames, have been excavated by relic hunters. In addition, we have had two or three carpet bags with soldier’s names either inked or stenciled on the interior lining.
