Civil War Officer’s Slouch Hat

Civil War Officer’s Slouch Hat – Civil War slouch hats have become extremely difficult to find now; this hat is the first we have been able to obtain in a long time. The hat remains in overall very good condition and exhibits the essential characteristics collectors look for in an original, war period hat: constructed of a soft, black, “mellow” rabbit or beaver felt; crown has a circumferential, black grosgrain ribbon; edge of brim has black grosgrain ribbon binding, now somewhat frayed. This hat apparently had a reasonably high, leather sweat band, although it is now missing, with only traces remaining. The hat has a 19^th century hat cord, although the “acorns” are somewhat small, so the hat cord may postdate the Civil War – we can supply the buyer with an original, definitively period hat cord. Overall, this is an excellent example of a Civil War officer’s slouch hat.
