CS Richmond Two Band, Rifled Carbine (Low Hump Version – Type III) – This rare and completely original, CS Richmond Confederate Carbine remains in fine condition, with excellent metal elements and stock. The overall length of the weapon is – 41”, with the barrel length at 25″; the muzzle exhibits a pinched front sight. The lock is stamped, in two horizontal lines – “C.S./ RICHMOND, VA” and vertically dated “1863” behind the hammer. Barrel date, usually found stamped near the breech plug, on the barrel, is no longer visible due to pitting, but the accompanying “V/ P” and eagle head proof stampings are visible. The barrel is attached to the stock by two flat barrel bands, each with the off center “U” stampings often found on CS Richmonds. Screwed into the bottom near end of the butt stock is the Richmond carbine, sling swivel, with a second swivel on the trigger guard and a third on the front barrel band. The metal elements of the weapons are dark gray iron, with the exception of the brass butt plate. The bore is clean, with traces of rifling remaining. The original nipple remains in place, as does the bolster clean-out screw. The tulip tipped ramrod appears to original. The mechanics of this gun are good. This is a fine example of a rare and essential Confederate weapon.
