Pre-Civil War to Early Civil War Officers’ Hardee Hat Embroidered Insignia

SOLD

Pre-Civil War to Early Civil War Officers’ Hardee Hat Embroidered Insignia – This eagle insignia for an officer’s Hardee hat, dates to the late 1850s to early Civil War era; it is constructed of silver and gold, bullion thread and sequins, embroidered on a blue felt background. The backing is a cotton mesh, exhibiting the white cotton threading, as revealed by the loss of some of the original, white paper, protective, backing cover. The insignia remains in overall good condition, although it appears that the original bullion border around the insignia was removed and the edge trimmed, perhaps in the period of use.
