Id’d Confederate Ninth Plate Tintype of Pvt. Henry Walter in November of 1862 – This fine resolution, ninth plate tintype depicts Confederate Private Henry Walter; Walter’s name is written, in pencil, on the interior of the image case, behind the image itself; the inscription states:
“Henry Walter
Nov. 8th 1862/
this is”
Walter is wearing a shell jacket. The buttons on the jacket appear to be three-piece, higher dome type buttons; the lowest button visible is possibly an Alabama map type button, thereby indicating Walter to be an Alabama enlisted man. Research indicates the following Confederate enlisted men by the name of Henry Walter, in service, in November of 1862:
- Henry Walter – Residence was not listed; Enlisted as a Private (date unknown).He also had service in: “I” Co. VA 9th Infantry
- Henry Walter – Residence was not listed; Enlisted as a Private (date unknown).He also had service in: “E” Co. AL 11th Infantry
- Henry Walter – Residence was not listed; Enlisted as a Private (date unknown).He also had service in: “E” Co. TN 1st Infantry
- Henry S. Walter – Residence was not listed; a 20 year-old Carpenter. Enlisted on 5/14/1861 at Alexandria, VA as a Private. On 5/14/1861 he mustered into “B” Co. VA 17th Infantry He was Absent without leave on 3/30/1863 (No further record) Promotions: * Corpl 5/26/1861
