U.S. Model A11 .45 Automatic Pistol D-Day Battlefield Found at a Beach at Normandy – This unusual relic originated in the collection of a retired, U.S. Army Colonel; his family stated that the pistol was found on one of the beaches involved in the June 6, 1944 D-Day assault, in Normandy; unfortunately, we cannot confirm this attribution, but the pistol has certainly been exposed to the vicissitudes of sea water and its component salts. The gun remains in reasonable, relic condition; it is completely covered in rust, although it is not flaking or weak in any areas. The hammer is cocked, indicating it was ready to be fired at the time of it being dropped on the assault beach. The ammunition magazine is no longer with the gun. This is an extremely poignant artifact of perhaps the most pivotal and decisive event of WWII.
