High Quality Confederate Holster for a Colt Army Style Revolver – This holster remains in overall very good condition; it has some finish crackling, but remains supple, with majority of the original finish remaining. The brass, latch tab finial is quite different from the U.S. holsters we have handled – this finial is quite bulbous and appears to have a seam around the largest diameter, indicative of two-piece construction; there also appears to be remnants of black paint on the finial. The actual latch tab is affixed to the holster flap via an unusual circular stitching, and the “eye” of the tab that fits over the finial, is rather crudely cut, also unlike the U.S. holsters; the tip end of the latch tab is missing. The holster retains its original end plug, as well. The back of the holster is devoid of a large belt loop, like U.S. holsters; in place of a belt loop are two large, parallel slits to accommodate attachment to the soldier’s belt. The mode of attachment of the holster flap is unusual, as well – it is attached via two rows of stitching; no rivets are used in this holster. This holster came out of an antebellum house in South Carolina.
